New Jersey born, LA based artist Maddy Davis releases her gloriously messy, authentic indie pop/rock anthem “Sally! I Met A Boy.” The self-written/ co-produced offering tells the relatable tale of wanting your closest supporters to not be doubtful of your latest fantasy romance, even though all of your past lovers ended in the same fate.
Opening with a grungy, punk-rock distorted guitar line, the rising artist confesses that her track-record with love hasn’t always been great. Her verses bleed with vulnerability, utilizing only a vocal line and guitar to perfectly match her undertones of distress. In true punk rock fashion, the drums kick in at the chorus, exploding with energy and bringing listeners a feeling of pure catharsis.
Maddy Davis gets down to earth and writes her music from a place of honest experience, hungry to connect with listeners as she commits to making songs that relate to everyone’s 20 somethings; dreaming big, moving fast, and not letting anyone tell you otherwise.
“Out of all the demos I’ve made, “Sally! I Met A Boy” definitely came together the quickest—I thought of the concept in the shower and arranged it in my head before I was out. At the top of 2021, I felt myself falling for a new guy, and realized it was time I told my older sister (Sally) about him. I recognized that it might be hard to convince her that this guy was worthy of my time, especially after so many failed attempts with men. The desperation in the lyrics truly represent how I felt in the moment: hopeful (though doubtful) that Sally will trust me.”
“This song was actually the first time I had ever really written a bass-line, and I don’t even own a bass, so I just used my guitar to record the demo and that is the “bass” part that ended up in the master. I wrote all the lyrics over just the bass-line (which I never usually do) so in a lot of ways, this song felt like the beginning of a new chapter of writing and production for me. I finished the production with my main collaborator on this EP, Matty Houck, and brought on mine and Matty’s good friend Nick Wille to record live drums.”
