“Yo LAKE!” That’s what 18 year old actor and musician Garren Lake Stitt kept hearing throughout the years.
“People kept yelling my last name like that and I thought it’d make the best stage name for my act so I just went for it. It sounds cool doesn’t it?!”
LAKE! Is energetic and full of new hot tracks with a young age and an already successful career as an actor which certainly helped him get a solid grasp of the entertainment industry.
“I started acting when I was 7 years old. I did films with James Franco, Val Kilmer and I’ve been in every network from Disney, CBS, ABC etc. I was always into music, though!”
Although, “music and acting are two very different industries. You really need to learn how to handle yourself and be able to maneuver among contracts and stuff in the music industry.” He reveals.
When we asked him how he started, he simply told us that “music has always been in blood, bro! My mom is brazialian and his father was a flamingo singer who was himself from Morocco. I come from a mixture of cultures and I have been singing since I was a kid.”
His musical style has been highly influenced by hip hop and pop.
“I remember memorizing lyrics and lines as soon as a rap song would come out. I would sit with my laptop and try to capture rhymes and beats and rhythmics.”
The Los Angeles native is still a brand new artist though and he’s only “two songs deep, bro! You haven’t seen nothing yet! I have 100+ songs on my computer!”
His debut song, called “Dead Roses” was released in February and gained support from Travis Mills on Apple Music Radio, Lyrical Lemonade, Idobi and many more.
His follow up track “Better Off Alone’ came out on March 31st and it’s all about “all those times you find yourself not committed to the girl and she sees me messing around with other girls while I’m super immersed in my paraphernalia to realize.”
“So at some point she goes ‘you know, I think you are just better off alone.’”
The whole track is supposed to highlight HER perspective. If you watch the music video the opening shot is basically portraying her being in her head while she is looking for me. It’s trying to tell the story based on what she’s thinking after telling me I would be better off alone.”
Going from acting to being an active musician give LAKE! A chance to show the most real side of his character.
“When people see me on their favorite TV show and come take a look at my IG they see me smoking a fat blunt or something and they go like ‘whaaat?!’
I might shock them at first but I feel good about it, man! This is the real me. Music allows me to be who I really am! I don’t wanna let a third party, a hater or whoever else determine how I portray myself just because they don’t like what I’m doing!”
