Berlin-based songwriter clide returns with his new EP ‘feelings’, and with it, presents his most mature, raw and honest self across the five-track project.
‘feelings’ takes a deeper and more intimate dive into clide’s own heartbreak and feelings of uncertainty, examining the emotional rollercoaster of love in the digital age. The next single ‘come over’ is an intimate and wistful exploration of clide’s past love, where we find him wondering what could have been. The EP is an emotional freefall culminating in the title-track where clide comes to accept that all feelings, both good and bad, are an important part of life.
Discussing ‘come over’, clide states “it’s a really pure song where I tried to express the thoughts and feelings that were running around my head at the time. I like the song so much, because it’s so honest and real, and I hope others can feel that too”
Clide’s interest in music started from an early age, following in his parents footsteps who were both professional classical musicians. After teaching himself songwriting and production at the age of 15, he went on to BIMM in Berlin to refine his craft. In 2020 clide’s his debut EP ‘in my mind’ racked up 20m streams and he was named as one of the hottest ‘artists-to-watch’ by Before The Data and Kings of A&R
What’s your story as an artist?
I‘m a boy growing up in a big city, trying to have some sort of impact on the world, singing songs about feelings and unrequited love.
What do you want your music to communicate?
I‘m tryna be very honest and authentic, giving people something to relate to with my lyrics, that are going through similar stuff that I might be going through.
But actually I just want to create something beautiful, that others can listen to and say: “that’s my new favourite song!“
What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?
Really, just moments and emotions that hit me all of the sudden, heartache, or some self reflection on my life and things around me, that makes me want to write a song about it, if there’s anything interesting going on…
Who is an artist that you look up to more than others today?
I admire Alexander23, because his lyrics are just hitting different and I always wish I came up with them. + his productions are sick as well!
What’s the record or artist that made you realise you wanted to be an artist?
It’s funny, cause I don’t really know, but it’s been a lot of EDM DJs like Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, KSHMR, The Chainsmokers that really inspired me to start producing and make my own music… and the rest came from there!
Tell us about your latest release and how it came about
I just dropped my second EP “feelings“, which I’m very proud of. There are 5 songs on it, all evolving around the title, but from different perspectives. Every song on it is very special to me, and thus I’m very happy it’s out. It’s like the second chapter of my artist career!:)
What inspires your sound?
Mostly the music I also listen to and the things I hear that stand out to me and excite me! So I might take a few different elements from different stuff I like and throw them together. Sometimes it sounds horrible, but sometimes I come up with something great. That’s how I like to produce… but also I want the song to be good, and a good song can go over any production, so sometimes I’m torn apart between a singer/songwriter production and going crazy on it!
What’s your favorite tune of yours?
Probably something I recently wrote and that’s unreleased. But I’m really happy I wrote “blank space“
Where are some things you really want to accomplish as an artist?
I just wanna leave a mark with the music I make and get it heard by as many people as possible.
Also i definitely wanna experience playing shows and festivals in front of thousands of people, that would be insane. I always used to go to Lollapalooza festival in Berlin, playing there would be a dream of mine.
Favorite lyric you ever wrote?
I’m a blank space on a blank page, I know a hundred thousand words, but I can’t say, where do I belong
Was there ever a moment when you felt like giving up?
Honestly, not really. I do have moments where I need a break or get anxiety, but deep down I always had faith in myself that things are gonna work out, and I hope it stays that way!
What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Your chief aim should always be to be happy right now.
Where do you think the next game changer will be in the music industry and entertainment scene?
If I knew I’d probably be rich already. Maybe there will be a new app where people do silly dances that will turn the whole music industry upside dow-oh wait.
