The Brooklyn-based artist, known for her dreamy soundscapes and mesmerizing vocals, continues to lean into her “desert folk” genre with the latest offering from her new album The Air Dangerous, due out in early 2025. The track signals a clear nod to the TV series Twin Peak with its tremolo guitar and transportive, dream-like feel.
“Stormy Weather was written during lockdown whilst going through a break up. Most of my songs are autobiographical but with some time and distance I now see this one as both a heartbreak song and as an analogy for my life and songwriting. I frequently receive songs after some sort of “storm” and I escape into them as a form of healing and protection. A desire to escape has always been a coping mechanism of mine, whether it be physically or in dreams, songs and stories.“Take this broken heart and leave your love instead” now appears to me as plea to the song rather than the person.”
Csoke’s first album Almoon, a minimal-for-maximum effect eight-track offering, was recorded at Sonic Youth’s studio, garnering critical acclaim for its atmospheric and introspective sound. Anchored by Cate’s dark, hypnotic vocals and deeply evocative lyricism, Almoon transported listeners across sweeping desertscapes of love and loss. With The Air Dangerous, Cate Von Csoke takes her signature sound further, with an even more cinematic and electrifying approach. Fans of Almoon will find themselves entranced once again by Cate Von Csoke’s ability to evoke powerful emotion and vivid imagery. The Air Dangerous promises to deliver an unforgettable experience—an aural voyage through shadow and light, longing and release.
