Hailing from the sunburnt streets of Melbourne, Clive Casey is a name poised to make waves with his upcoming single, “Away.” This track is part of his debut album, “Pinche País,” set to be released on March 28. The album draws inspiration from the stark beauty of the Australian landscape, which serves as a backdrop for the stories and characters intricately woven throughout its tracks.

“Away” digs into the themes of cultural dissonance, reflecting Clive’s journey. He wrote the lyrics in his twenties after revisiting a remote Walpiri community in the Northern Territory, where he spent part of his childhood while his mother taught. Those memories, once vivid, had faded during his teenage years in Melbourne, leaving him with an idealized view of his early experiences.

The song conveys a sense of discontent and a longing for escape from a lifeless environment—literally and figuratively—with Clive feeling trapped in a desolate town, where days blend into weeks, highlighting a monotonous existence. Some of the imagery Clive uses in his lyrics further gives us an image of harsh reality marked by struggle and resilience. Of course, the desolate town is more than a physical place, it reflects a state of mind where the speaker grapples with stagnation and unfulfilled potential. This internal landscape is marked by a sense of isolation and frustration, where time drags on and dreams seem distant, and it’s only fantasies that keep the dream half alive.

Away” captures a poignant struggle between the desire for freedom and the constraints of circumstance. The music video combines stunning footage from the Tanami desert with scenes of Clive performing against an industrial backdrop, capturing the essence of his journey back to a place he once cherished as well as the stark realities one faces in life.
