There’s something mesmerizing about the fingertips of Dana Gavanski. Conducting each note with a light gracefulness, they appear to dance whilst aiding their owner in expressing the stories behind each of her lighter-than-air tones.

Stories which, on her forthcoming new album, When It Comes, may never have been heard if not for healing lost vocal cords and a lesson in taking the rough with the smooth.

New single, “Indigo Highway,” came to Gavanski on the grandmother Moog like a vision. It’s about someone very dear from her childhood that she no longer has contact with and serves as an ode to childhood friendships and playfulness.

What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?

Finding the flow state.

What inspired this track?

The grandmother moog, like a vision

What are some of the core messages here?

It’s about someone very dear to me from childhood that I no longer have contact with and it’s an ode to childhood friendships and playfulness. From the beginning of my interest in songwriting, I’d tried many times to write about this relationship and never could. It felt too fragile, too fraught with experience and distant in many ways. I haven’t spoken with her in a long time but our friendship was a seminal period in my life, from childhood into my late teens, and I experienced some beautiful and dark things with her

How do you think TikTok and social media are contributing to change an artist’s career?

They’re ruining our attention. Making us ego addicts.

What are some of your core values as a human being?

Trying to be as present and focused in the moment as I can be. Considerate kindness.

What are your projects for this year?

At the moment, we’re just hoping to tour this album as much as possible! Otherwise, I’ve been playing with other people and working on collaborative projects which has been opening my mind up in different ways so I just look forward to exploring that more!
