R’n’drilllll, pretty little thing depicts a love song to a lover who has seemingly moved on. It’s the first full length track in the style S.A.M’s rap fans have grown to love from his viral freestyles. “Way too pretty to be this petty” / “take advice from girls who can’t keep a man let alone keep her mouth from talking” are only two of the lyrics where S.A.M pens somewhat of an insight to his appearing pain.
Scattered with trademark voice notes, witty bars and a beautifully interwoven vocal delivery, fans will appreciate S.A.M’s versatility on the track. There’s also a telling sample for those poetically inclined.
‘Pretty little thing’ follows S.A.M’s Halloween offering ‘Kill Time’,
Dark, devious and unbelievably convoluted. For his latest single, Kill Time, a fanged S.A.M enlisted an international assist with the Canadian talent Eyon. The result? A spine-chilling tale of two femme fatales plotting the demise of vulnerable men who ventured one step too far into the vampire underworld. Crossed headshots and circled blood types walk us right to the final kiss (bite) of death.
What’s your story as an artist?
I’ve always been in and around music. I’ve been playing the piano since about the age of 6 and then growing up in church laid some good foundations. Originally I was always rapping, but over the years my music has definitely taken a more melodic direction and here we are just finished 2021. A whole joint R&B project, 4 singles and fair to say – a lot more to come!
What inspired this last release?
It was a song I made during the pandemic at home. It was a vibe and instantly I knew I wanted to get Eyon on it! From there the rest was history!
What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?
My life really! I’m very big on writing about the real. Sometimes all it takes is a story from one of my friends, and a banger can be made.
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
Ahhhh, I remember being very sure of it being a hit when making the hook last year. It definitely held poll position in being one of my favourite tunes I had made.
Tell us about the music video and the idea behind it ?
Originally I had planned to drop ‘Kill Time’ as a summer track but then I realised Halloween was coming up- to play off the ‘kill’ idea. I thought to go with a Halloween theme.
What’s a record that shaped your creativity?
I had a record called “Island kid” that I dropped in 2018 whilst being In quite a dark place mentally. To make a summer banger in that state of mind was strange and difficult but seeing it do so well organically was the first time I started to realise I could do music seriously.
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
Tory Lanez for sure, the versatility is unreal and has definitely inspired me alot.
Any future projects?
For sure. “pretty little thing” is out now and 2022 is looking exciting. There are alot of big singles in the pipeline that I can’t wait to share with the world.
What is your view on genres and music styles since you mix a lot of them in your music?
For me I always hated being boxed in. Even though I started as a rapper, I think it’s safe to say over the years the melodic direction of my music has meant I can cross over many genres. I think I’ve always thought of it as S.A.M is the genre.
What does music and art mean to you?
It breathes the life in me and really provides perspective of everything in my life. I always say being able to have an outlet like music and art to let loose and express yourself is a great feeling. Plus our collective NXIRE started on the fact that we wanted to blend the worlds of art and music.
How would you describe your act in one word?
In one word yikes that’s difficult… perhaps multifaceted.
