Earlier this month they released stunning new single ‘loner’, a song about walking the line between loving to be alone and loneliness.

“When I was a child I felt free, but as I became a teenager, something changed. Maybe it was karma, maybe there were events that I can’t remember anymore, but I started to feel uncomfortable around most people. Tides of shyness would explode over me and I just felt so painfully other. As if surrounded by invisible walls I felt that I was just watching all the interactions, pondering if the things I would say would be ok. But mostly I would just think for so long that I would say nothing & show nothing.

It’s the loneliest feeling when you can’t show your real self to others. Maybe because of the fear that they won’t accept you as you are – maybe you’re actually too loud? Too intense? Too vivid? & then you shield yourself and in actuality, it’s lonelier than being able to show your true self. To be disliked but also to be found by the people you really vibe with. As I have grown, I feel less & less like that, but still – I love to spend time alone with myself. I feel free when I’m alone.

When I moved to London from Tallinn, life pushed me to change. I found a new version of myself that speaks a different language and is less afraid of humans & the World. I can’t say that the transition was easy though. I feel it’s very true that it is in the darkest of night that the seeds of a new life & a new self are planted. I just couldn’t keep on isolating myself when I moved to London to pursue my dreams. I was far away from home, from family & the friends I had known & on the brink of a life that was new & foreign to me. It got too lonely even for a loner.”

The band’s frontwoman Iiris Vesik says about the track

‘loner’ is set to feature on their next EP, due for release in April, as the perfect follow-up to their 2023’s ‘Perfect Kindness’. Complementing its lush production, the project is elevated with mixing by Nathan Boddy, who has worked with PinkPantheressJames BlakeMura Masa and London Grammar, and mastered by Matt Colton, who has worked with Flying Lotus, Flume and Brian Eno amongst others.

Night Tapes started out as evening jams between housemates Max Doohan, Sam Richards and Iiris Vesik in London. Night time London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope-pushing dream pop. The trio take inspiration from both their lived experience in the world that they can see and touch, as well as the less tangible spiritual and metaphysical realm.

To date, the band have released three EPs: Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo and Download Spirit, and Perfect Kindness, whichas released to acclaim via Nettwerk Music Group last summer. Their debut single ‘Forever’ has reached over seven million plays, and their music has been championed by Turtlenek, Paste Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, DUMMY Magazine, At The Barrier, David Dean Burkhart and Majestic Casual channels.

‘loner’ is another stunning Night Tapes single, and a perfect way to kick off what is sure to be a momentous year for the London trio. This band is going places.
