Almost a year in the making, LA-based artist, producer, and filmmaker Evan Blum shares the music video for “Into The Dark” – their electrifying duet with LA-based singer-songwriter Alyce Weber.

The song is taken from Blum’s upcoming double-album entitled Anatomy of the Most Confidently Insecure Person on This Planet, out in the fall of 2022.

Described by Blum as a “narrative music video”, Into the Dark plays akin to a short film – blending witty dialogue, dramatic tension, and neon-soaked visuals as a testament to Blum’s expansive talent and aspirations as an auteur.

While the song explores the impulses and desires we suppress to protect our emotions, the video shows what happens when people act on those urges regardless of the repercussions. Diving into the world of fantasy and betrayal, we get some additional insight into the inspiration for the song and video from Weber:

The magic of the video is that it leans equally on the strength of the cinematography, acting performances, and the song. Both the acting and vocal performances of Blum and Weber weave around and highlight each other. When Weber’s voice is powerful and soaring, Blum’s is soft and understated. When Blum goes into his emotionally rich upper register, Weber floats alongside like a silky cloud.

On “Into The Dark,” Evan Blum and Alyce Weber take us out of our comfort zone to embrace the unknown. Sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones when we throw caution to the wind and give in to life as it’s happening.

Tell us about your story as an artist and creative

My story is one of complete struggle and push. Every single ounce of talent that I have has come from hard work. When I initially started I couldn’t sing well. I couldn’t write well. I couldn’t play well. It’s been an exciting journey.

What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?

The most important thing in my life right now is focusing on people that are reciprocal.

What makes this music video special in your opinion?

This video is about a love square and it emphasizes how full of shit everyone can be. Everyone may present one thing but in reality, they are probably doing the same exact thing they are accusing others of doing.

What inspired this song and music video?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Part movie and part music video. It’s such an incredible experience.

What are some of the core messages here?

The core message is this: do not fall for the glitz and glamor of what people present to you. No such thing as a free lunch. The bait-and-switch is everywhere.

How do you think TikTok and social media are contributing to changing an artist’s career?

You can get famous without even putting on pants in the morning. So yeah it’s pretty incredible.

What excites you about your life?

Honestly, the filmmaking side of things is what is exciting to me. Creating stories and watching them come to life is exhilarating.

What are some of your core values as a human being?

My core value is to help people and be of service to people. But these days I choose wisely who I do that for.

What are your projects for this year?

I have a double album releasing later this year!
