Franco-Brazilian artist, composer and producer Yndi is releasing her debut album Noir Brésil on May 28 via Nascimento/Grand Musique Management

She just recently debuted her new track “Noir Brésil” alongside a stunning music video.

“In 2020, there were so many images of black suffering on social media. After that traumatizing year, I needed images showing me that being black wasn’t only about suffering, I wanted healing images.” Yndi reveals

“It’s exactly what the Afro-Brazilian culture has been doing for centuries, it conveys a strength that keeps us alive in a dehumanizing society. ‘Noir Brésil’ is a poem for my ancestors.”

Formerly known as Dream Koala, Yndi decided to retire the moniker in 2017 and began writing what ultimately became Noir Brésil, a modern pop album where afro-Brazilian percussion meets French and Portuguese poetry to create an immersive soundscape.

As Dream Koala, Yndi released EPs Odyssey (2013), Earth. Home. Destroyed. (2014) and Exodus (2015), as well as popular single “We Can’t Be Friends,” gaining her international success and garnering multi-millions of streams across platforms.

On this particular record, she loved working with “visual artists. I had the opportunity to produce an animated music video for ‘Novo Mundo’ and to direct the video for ’Noir Brésil’. I can’t wait to share what has to come!!! Really exciting!”

Art, literature and cinema and even video games highly influence her creative flow, as you may imagine by now:

“Video games had a huge influence on me too: Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy or Zelda. Sometimes I try to transpose into music the moods I feel when I play, the feeling when you discover a new mysterious area or when you encounter an impressive enemy.”

The album cover, says Yndi, was another piece of well-thought out aesthetics and visual storytelling:

“For this album, I got inspired a lot by christianity and black Brazilian culture, if you look at my music videos or artworks you will often see some Candomblé references or elements from the Bible. I’m really interested in the aesthetics produced by spirituality in order to heal our souls, I’m also fascinated by everything related to imagination: fantasy, science-fiction, mythology. “

When we asked what’s one of the things she is looking forward the most right now she says

“I would love to visit my grand-mother in Brazil this summer to spend some quality time with my family. I will also keep making my video series about my work, music, art and everything I’m passionate about!”
