Filmed in the desert at the infamous Pink Mirage House owned by iconic music video director, Damien Sandovalm, the visuals of a rather dry world are brought to life through Wowashwow’s colorful personality and wardrobe, which was styled by Troy C Ford of The Suga Shack. Her vibrant colors blended with her fiery confidence encourage viewers to find their inner lioness. Directed by Michaella Page at Voodoo Visuals, Page, Gary Gifford, and Lionel Christian came together to deliver a legendary production.
What inspired the video for “Heatwave?”
We wanted to create something that was fun and a solo performance from myself. Most of my previous videos were a big production with a lot of amazing people featured. This time we wanted to show my growth as an artist and vibe out.
Who are your main inspirations musically and lyrically?
Kendrick Lamar, Nikki Minaj, Joey Bada$$, Nirvana, Wu-Tang Clan, Spice, Frank Zappa, and Snoop Dogg.
Who are the 3 best artists for you today?
Hands down, Nicki Minaj consistently kills it! Labyrinth, his voice is incredibly mesmerizing, and his arrangements are sickening! Also, Young Baby Tate- she’s sooo different and insanely talented! She’s a dream collaboration!
What is your creative process like?
Honestly, it just happens. I’ll hear a beat or melody, and the song sort of forms in my head. Usually, it will start with the hook, or I’ll think of a clever line, and the song starts writing itself.
What is this song all about?
The song is all about feeling confident about yourself. No matter what you do in life, don’t let anyone try to stop your life. Move-in the bish like a Heatwave!
How would you describe your own sound?
Music that makes you happy. That’s it.
What’s the main message you want to convey?
To do the things you love, and the rest will sort itself out.
