Kimi Stär (pronounced Kee-mee Star) is an Earth based electronic alt-pop duo consisting of indie house producer/vocalist ZOSIA and pop singer/songwriter and well-known mystic, Kaitlyn Kaerhart

After briefly meeting at a Los Angeles Samhain ceremony, the two found themselves both moving back to Brooklyn, New York around the same time. They decided to form a band, fusing together a unique blend of influences from their respective genres.

Their ethereal sound evokes feelings of nostalgia, with Kaerhart’s soulful guitar and smoky voice, combining with ZOSIA’s wistful style of production and lush vocals.

Listen to “Wildfire” here

1. What is your story as a duo?

We were introduced to each other by a mutual friend at a Samhain (Halloween) event years ago. A year after that, we both found ourselves as New Yorkers living in Los Angeles. We bonded over missing NYC, music and all things mystical. We have been good friends and collaborators ever since.

2. What made you want to collaborate?

We found that we have opposite, yet complimentary, strengths. It feels like we fill in each other’s ‘weaknesses’ so to speak. Making music together felt so natural from day one, and not even that, we actually have fun working together and learning from each other. It was also a relief to find each other as women in the industry.

3. What do you want your music to communicate?

We want our music to communicate messages of hope, nostalgia and empowerment.

4. What are some sources of inspiration for your storytelling?

We draw inspiration from anything and everything. We once wrote a song about having the same haircut as kids in the 90s so nothing is off limits here when it comes to inspiration.

5. Who is an artist that you look up to more than others today?

We really love artists like Phantogram, Glass Animals and Grimes…. Any artists that are pushing the boundaries in music and incorporating unexpected elements into their records while still having a strong songwriting component.

6. What inspired this last release?

“Wildfire” explores elements of the light and darkness of our world. It came from a moment of needing to find strength within ourselves in order to rise like a phoenix. It’s really about the relationship between suffering and success over pain.
