What inspired you to create “Meant 2 Be” as a Valentine’s Day anthem?
The spark for Meant 2 Be ignited when my producer, Sonny, played me a track with this beautifully sweet and romantic vibe. Instantly, I knew it had Valentine’s Day written all over it. I reached out to my incredibly talented friend Eric, and together, we shaped it into a playful love song. A big part of the inspiration came from my partner, who’s a huge fan of superheroes, Zelda, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. So, we decided to sprinkle in nods to those beloved worlds, making the song feel even more personal and fun.
Can you tell us about the songwriting process? How did you and Eric Bonner collaborate on this track?
Eric is a songwriting genius, so when I had the idea for a lighthearted love song, he was the first person I called. I wanted to weave in elements of my partner’s love for superheroes and pop culture, blending those references with a fun, nostalgic energy. We even played off that classic childhood rhyme—“sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G”—which added a youthful, timeless charm to the lyrics.
The song has a mix of vintage romance and modern playfulness—what influenced this unique sound?
The sound really took shape when Sonny introduced a jazzy piano foundation that gave the song this elegant yet contemporary feel. We wanted to push beyond what we’d done before, blending old-school romance with a modern pop twist. It’s the kind of track that feels fresh but also like it could have existed in another era.
You include some fun pop-culture references, like Peter Parker and Mary Jane—why did you choose them, and do they hold personal significance for you?
Absolutely! Those references stem directly from the song’s inspiration—my partner. Peter and MJ represent that sweet, playful, and slightly fantastical kind of love, which felt like the perfect parallel to the story I wanted to tell. Plus, there’s something timeless about superhero romances—no matter what universe they’re in, their love always finds a way.
What was the most exciting or challenging part of bringing “Meant 2 Be” to life, both musically and lyrically?
Honestly, the process felt effortless—like love at first sight! From the moment we started writing, everything just clicked. The flirty, upbeat energy made it such a joy to create. Seeing it come to life musically and lyrically was the most exciting part, and after writing it in 2023, I’m beyond thrilled to finally share it with the world.
The track features a big band energy with jazz-pop flair. Are there any artists or genres that influenced this particular style?
Definitely! Postmodern Jukebox was a huge inspiration with their ability to reimagine modern songs through a jazzy, vintage lens. While Meant 2 Be leans more toward pop, that retro-jazz influence is undeniably there, adding an extra layer of charm to the track.
Valentine’s Day is all about love—what’s your personal definition of love, and how does this song reflect that?
To me, love is all about deep, meaningful connections—whether that’s with a partner, best friend, family, or even your fur-babies. But for Meant 2 Be, it’s definitely focused on romantic love. Let’s just say, I wouldn’t sing this one to my dog, Tebow… though he is pretty adorable!
If “Meant 2 Be” had a music video, what would it look like? Do you have any visuals in mind for this song?
It does have a music video, and it’s live on my YouTube channel! The visuals perfectly match the song’s playful and flirty vibe. There are cute emojis, a whimsical tree backdrop—it’s simple, but it really captures the lighthearted energy of the track.
How do you hope listeners feel when they hear “Meant 2 Be”? Any special message you’d like them to take away?
I hope it makes people smile, dance, and maybe even text that special someone. Love should always feel fun, fresh, and a little flirty, and I want this song to bring out that youthful excitement. Whether you’re in love, crushing on someone, or just vibing, Meant 2 Be is here to set the mood!
What’s next for you? Can we expect more music in this fun, romantic style or something completely different?
While Meant 2 Be is a fun and romantic detour, I’ve got more pop/rock music coming soon that’s a bit more personal—diving into my journey and experiences. But who knows? This playful, love-filled energy might just make a comeback down the road!
