With silken vocals that penetrate your heart and your earbuds, Chalynn describes the potent effect her partner has on her. “If you find a love like this, you can’t duplicate it,” she croons.  Paired with a sensuous black and white visual, the song is a hypnotic introduction to 4PF’s songbird.

Chalynn offers up a refined and delicate vocal performance that perfectly complements her songwriting. If this release is any indication, we can prepare ourselves for an upcoming breakout moment for the rising starlet.

How does it feel being the first woman signed to 4PF?

I feel really good about it! I feel I’m bringing more to the label as far as expanding it. Right now everyone on the label is a rapper, no one does RnB. It’s cool because I have my own lane within the label and I can be myself as an artist.

Does this song have special meaning for you?

The song is about a mood that I was in at that time. When you have somebody, and you just feel like they brought something new to your life, that feeling of being pleasantly surprised when someone treats you right. I was reacting off the mood I was in and “What You Do” is what came from that.

Tells us more about what prompted you to write “What You Do”

I feel it was a mix of my current situation and when someone goes through phases where they meet someone new and everything feels like bliss, you want to be around that person all the time because they have that love for you.

What inspired the video?

Just listening to the song I closed my eyes and just visualized something very sensual and sexy. I had my creative director put it into a treatment and create a mood board. I wanted something simple but eye-catching. I knew I wanted black and white from the beginning, I can’t see the video any other way. I know if I can’t think of any other version, then that’s what I need to do.

What is the most important aspect of your life right now?

Music for sure, and focusing on my career. Now that I’m out there, it’s time. I want to show the world what I can do. Aside from my career, my peace is the most important. I work best when I’m in a great space mentally and spiritually, so that’s a priority in my life.

What’s the best and worst part about being a woman in the music industry?

The best part is, I feel like we run the world honestly! I love being a woman, it’s hard to be a woman in general, but being able to be in the spotlight and express my feelings knowing other women can relate is exciting and means a lot to me. The worst part is when women are set to meet certain expectations, or have to look a certain way. Men go through it too, but it’s a little more uncomfortable as a woman.

What advice would you give a young R&B artist that wants to get to your level?

Find your niche, find your vibe and your voice. Take time to learn yourself as an artist, don’t let anyone make you sound different. It’s always good to create a vibe that’s not out yet. Also, making sure you put in the hard work that comes with it. The biggest advice I can give is to not feed into the internet and what people say about you, don’t let what people say get to you, that’s how you keep going.
