Kate Stewart carves out her own path that highlights the feeling of taking control of your own truth with her fiery new single, “The Game”, through The Orchard & Sony Music.
“The Game” was orchestrated by accomplished music icons:
● BMI award winning songwriter & producer David Stewart – (BTS, Jonas Brothers, Hailee Steinfeld, Griff, Monsta X & Anthony Ramos)
● BMI award winning songwriter, Jessica Agombar – (BTS, Jonas Brothers, DNCE, Claudia Valentina, & Kygo)
“The Game” reflects on an opportunity to show power and getting back to yourself when you’ve fallen astray. Lyrically saying how it feels to know exactly what you want , when you want it. It’s all about playing your own game, one where you have control of the outcome and finding a more self-assured version of yourself , all the while having your own full house.
1. What’s your story as an artist?
I started making music when I was 18. I had just come out of music college and was spotted by my first manager at my graduation. I went straight from college, to working with them, getting in the studio, writing music with different producers. I then went on tour with a DJ duo called Bondax as their live singer, that was the most amazing experience. We traveled all over the world for about 2 years. I then left them and signed my first record deal, I then started releasing music under KStewart, quickly realised I was losing my way with my sound and left the label to release independently. I then released my first EP ‘In The Beginning’ as an independent artist, and the rest is history!
2. Can you recall the time you decided you wanted to be an artist during your teenage years?
Yes! Very clearly. I always knew I wanted to be a performer, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be in musical theatre, or an actress or a singer, I just knew I wanted to be on stage. When I was 17 I was in a song and dance class at my college where I was studying musical theatre. We all had to pick one song to perform in front of the class, I picked ‘On My Own’ from Les Mis. I sung one of the lines, the way I would sing it, with a little riff on the end, and my teacher stopped me and said ‘WHAT, was that, we do not “riff” in musical theatre, and from that moment on, I thought well this isn’t for me then… I need to be a pop star.
3. What inspired this last release?
“The games the game” is just a phrase that me and my friends always say. I really wanted to get it into a song for the longest time, and I’m happy I got to make it with my brother. He understood the assignment.
4. What are some things you like to do to recharge your batteries?
I’m very here for a self care day. There’s a place in the UK called Soho Farmhouse. I love going up there on a Sunday, swimming, having a massage, eating amazing food, and chilling with my girlfriends. And sleep! Lots and lots of sleep.
5. Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
None that come to mind. However whenever I work with my brother David and Jess (who co-wrote the song with us) we always have such a laugh. Sessions with them are always by far my favourite.
6. What’s your favorite lyrics you ever come up with?
“Don’t test me now, I was born in West London Town, you better not test me now, cos what does around comes around” A little sneak peek into my upcoming EP!
7. What’s a record that shaped your creativity?
“Stripped” by Christina Aguilera. Anyone who knows me, knows Christina is my QUEEN. Ever since I was a kid, she was always my favourite, and “Stripped” is one of my favourite albums of all time. It introduced me to R&B, I sang that album so much and studied it. I honestly believe Christina taught me how to sing. I’m so inspired by her ad libs, her melodies, her lyrics, her attitude, everything about Stripped is just so right!
8. Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
I’m a massive massive fan of Rihanna. I really look up to her as an artist, as a fashion queen, as a business woman, she is who I aspire to be like.
9. What excites you the most about what you do ?
Singing live and performing on stage. Nothing in this life will compare to the rush of adrenalin I get when I’m on stage. I love everything about it. Having the band behind me, the lights on my face, the sound of people cheering, it’s the best feeling in the world.
10.What is your view on genres and music styles since you mix a lot of them in your music?
I love so many different genres of music. I grew up listening to so many different artists and styles, I never could put my finger on which was my favourite. Which is why in my music I like to mix and match, switch it up, otherwise it just gets boring and repetitive.
11. What does music and art mean to you?
It means everything to me. Ever since I could speak I was singing, it’s the only thing that makes me feel truly happy.
12. How would you describe your act in one word?
MAJOR.
