What’s your story as an artist?

Since as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to sing. I was introduced to piano at a very young age as well, which further sparked my interest in music. With my voice and a means to accompany it, I felt empowered. I had the ability to tell other people’s stories through cover songs. It wasn’t until later in highschool when I began to tell my own. My newfound interest in creating my own music led me to explore the world of music production. I’ve been working on my craft for the past two and a half years now and am so ready to release more music!

What inspired this last release?

My debut single “better love” was candidly created super randomly. I was sitting in my home studio (my bedroom) and for some reason I had this urge to create a stack of vocal harmonies. It all happened very spontaneously. I didn’t plan the harmonies out on the piano to make sure they sounded good, I was just having fun with it. I sang layer after layer and the next thing I knew, I had about twenty five tracks. I listened back to them and I remember thinking to myself “this is unlike anything I’ve ever done before.” That really excited me because I love sounds that people are unfamiliar with. I worked on the song for about three months before I decided to release it.

Do you get inspired by other art forms?

I’m genuinely inspired by all genres of music I listen to. For this song in particular I gravitated towards an experimental, unique sound. I really pulled from Tame Impala’s remix of “Guilty Conscious” by 070 Shake. I was enthralled at how the dynamic synths and airy vocals created an ethereal atmosphere, and how the pounding drums and gritty bass grounded the mix.

Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?

Something super wholesome about this record is that my mom, who was the first person I showed the initial demo to, started freaking out. She really really liked it. That made me super happy and inspired me to keep working on it.

What’s your favorite place or environment to write?

I almost always create the melody of the song before I come up with lyrics. For me the most important thing is that I can hear the music I’m writing for while I write. I also like to put myself in an environment that embodies the lyrics and overall feel of the song. If I’m writing sad lyrics, I’ll often write them late at night in my car. But I’m trying to write happier songs… and I love writing those while I’m surrounded by nature.

What’s a record that shaped your creativity?

A record that shaped my creativity is a single I have yet to release called “forest green.” The record starts out with an energetic bass line guitar and punchy drums, like most indie pop tracks do, but packs a sweet surprise in the chorus. I was most proud of myself as an artist when I created this song because it’s extremely out of my comfort zone.

Who is an artist or band you look up to today?

An artist I look up to is Big Wild, also known as Jackson Stell. I admire Stell so much because of his ability to create different genres of high quality music. He makes EDM bangers just as well as he makes ambient lullabies.

What excites you the most about what you do ?

I am most excited by the freedom I get when I create music. The fact that I can hear something in my head, whether it be a melody, a pattern, etc, and copy it on a comptuer without any restrictions is incredible to me. The art of music production is a complex one but reeps many benefits. Music is also freeing in that it is completely subjective. There is no one who can tell you that you are doing something wrong when you create music. If you think it’s good, then it’s good!

What is your view on genres and music styles since you mix a lot of them in your music?

I am fascinated by all genres of music. I really like combining genres that people wouldn’t expect to work together. In “better love” I combine vocals and piano chords you would typically hear in a ballad with an experimental twist. In my next single “forest green” which is coming out later this winter, I combine indie pop with 80’s disco.

What does music and art mean to you?

I am so passionate about music and art in general. I think the world would be so incredibly boring without it. Music brings people together, inspires people, and can make a person’s day. Personally, creating and listening to music is my favorite thing to do and I can’t wait to release more songs to the world!
