One of the most unique and mysterious artists on the scene today, verydeadly is the stage name of Atalaya Murphy, an African American transfemme singer-songwriter from the Central Coast of California. As the child of a Christian preacher, Atalaya became fascinated with religion, exploring Eastern and Western theologies that have largely influenced her music in both sound and message.
A multi-instrumentalist and producer inspired by the likes of Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and 4AD’s Big Thief, verydeadly was discovered by veteran A&R exec Caleb Morairty, known for signing alt-pop superstars Glass Animals (currently the #69th most streamed artist in the world) to Capitol/Harvest Records, and once managing the acclaimed How To Dress Well.
“Atalaya writes music that you feel in your bones with a simple complexity that is mesmerizing and timeless. She has a gorgeous, otherworldly presence that captures the intimate moments in life with her melodies, lyrics, and beautiful voice.” – Joe Barham, CEO HIFI Labs/ex-Head of Music Patreon
“I believe verydeadly will be one of those zeitgeist artists that define an era. Atalaya is a generational talent.” –Caleb Morairty, A&R, HIFI Labs
