DeeOhGee is the new chapter in the story of a band of brothers who’ve now been through it! Emerging on a fresh platform to share their unique blend of great American music. Formerly touring under the name “Blackfoot Gypsies”, they have dropped the old name but kept the same spirit. A spirit arising from a life dedicated to Rock-n-Roll.
The group established a loyal fanbase across the US and Europe, while releasing a catalogue of music documenting their journey. After going through inevitable changes over the course of hundreds of shows and thousands of miles – it only felt right right to start a new book, with a sharper sense of who they are and what they’re doing.
DeeOhGee is now comprised of Matthew Paige, Zack Murphy, and Dylan Whitlow. Each member contributes songs and brings different musical expertise to the table. These 3 musicians cover a huge spectrum of instruments – everything from timpani to pianos and banjos to harmoniums. Every single note and voice you hear on their recordings, is them. No studio musicians.
They are beyond dedicated to their craft and eagerly work toward giving the world their life’s work. Collecting vibrations from every walk of life in this world and turning them into a hummable tune, with a wink of humor. Now, after all these years of honing their craft, the music is a concentrated serum exported from their souls, for all to share and enjoy. DeeOhGee is a band of people, made of people, for the people.
What have you been up to since last time we spoke?
Zack Murphy: Mainly playing a lot of shows! It’s been great to get in front of a live audience again. The feeling of getting in the van and touring is a real thing again and that has been really exciting. We also signed to a new label, WDGO Music. We’re excited about this deal and the new record that we will dropping under the label later this year.
Tell us about this new track
Matthew Paige: this new track is a breath you can catch mid show and change the pace of the evening. It’s a waltz that includes strings and swooping harmonies, and also some down home vibes with harmonica. It’s really a grand combination of our influences, and even though it’s not a long track it feels like a healing journey.
It seems like you guys started playing shows again. How does it feel to play live again?
ZM: Really amazing! For a year it felt like we were just waiting to play in front of people again. The audiences have been really spectacular. Nothing touches performing in front of actual people that dance and groove along to the tunes. Touring was our life pre-covid; so it’s been great to get back to what our life was. We’re hoping we can stay on the road as much as we can and continue to play in front of actual people and not just cameras and computer screens. Watching people react to the music and feeling like you are playing WITH them and TO them and not just AT them has been a much more gratifying experience.
WHat is the meaning behind this new track?
MP: The meaning is more of a reminder to all participating humans to make the effort to communicate your feelings rather than keep them in a do inner harm. That could turn into outer harm. A vulnerable plea to a friend to spill their guts before it’s too late.
What inspired the sound of this new track?
MP: I think the 3/4 time thing really tipped it all off. There’s something swinging about it and that will influence the rest of the songs elements. The words and the building of the arrangement, and the including of more and more instruments till it hits a climax Chorus. This song was just a lil seed that kept growin.
Do you have any exciting new projects on the horizon?
ZM: This song is one single off the new record titled “New Way Of Life”. That full length album will be out on WDGO Music later this year. We are really excited to play some select release parties around the US once that is released. We are also going to keep playing live and touring as much as we possibly can in support of this record and just in general. We are very proud of this new batch of songs. It really is our best recorded material yet. That being said, we are Thee Greatest Rock n Roll Band In The World so come see us live and in action!
