Rachel Chevat aka Rainlights is a singer/songwriter/producer and engineer based in NYC. After spending two years in London, UK – where she received her Master’s degree in Audio Production, Rainlights is now ready to share her dreamy music with the world.
Through a life of seeing colors when hearing sounds, Rainlights is inspired by her synesthesia. By using melodies to recreate images sonically, the artist combines her soothing vocals, her storytelling and her cinematic productions to create dreamy-pop/folk records that will make you feel a sense of belonging.
“I wrote and recorded “When My Phone Dies” over the summer, but didn’t produce/mix the track until a few months later, in December. “When My Phone Dies” is an ode to distance, distractions, and how love fits in between the two.
This song felt important to release because it shifted my gears musically towards a more cinematic sound that influenced everything I wrote afterwards. Last summer, I was living in London, and I hadn’t been able to visit home (Brooklyn) in around two years. I wanted the production to capture the yearning that comes with leaving—by adding long, drawn-out strings to the chorus, and textured noises to the quieter parts of the track.
I have been writing and recording music quietly, and only showed the finished pieces to my friends. But this year I finally felt ready to put something out into the world. Incredibly excited for this track!” Says Rainlights
