NYC singer-songwriter MuMu throws shade with her newest release, “The Bitch in Me,” a punchy song about clashing personalities and what happens when you give in to your inner bitch. It’s a bop with totally relatable, cleverly comedic lyrics. MuMu’s storytelling is so on point, we feel like her best-friend across the table exclaiming, “Yaaas girl, spill that tea!”

“The Bitch in Me” was inspired by a real person (who shall remain unnamed) who’s world revolves around money and aristocracy. The only thing they’re passionate about is securing the best table at the new Michelin five-star restaurant.

1. Quite a provocative title. Are you embracing the bitch in you or suppressing it?

Embracing her all the way. I’ll admit though, that was difficult for me. I’m naturally a loving person, especially when it comes to women. The process of writing, recording, and releasing this song, actually helped me come to terms with my inner bitch. She deserves her day in the sun just like the rest of us

2. How do you deal with annoying people? Especially in this industry?

Do you want the nice lady answer or the bitch answer?

Nice lady answer is: I try not to find compassion for the folks I come into contact with, especially when they are acting anything less than kind. Being a human is hard. And I try to remember that hurt people hurt people. So when someone treats me less then, I assume this is coming from a source of pain. This helps me get in touch with my compassion and take things less personally.

The bitch answer is F the haters.

3. What do you do to relax and decompress?

I love ridiculously time consuming creative projects. I’m secretly an introvert and my happy place is at home crocheting on the couch with silence in the air. I think there’s an expectation for pop musicians to always be out on the scene, watching friends’ sets at the clubs downtown. But my ideal Saturday night is staying home and collaging until 4am. Hot, right?

4. Top 5 artists you love

1- Elton John

2- Alicia Keys

3- Pink

4- Sara Bareilles

5- Anaïs Mitchell

5. Favorite clothing item in your closet?

I just crocheted a rainbow cardigan last week and I’ve worn it every day since completion. I don’t think I can put it in the wash so I think I’m just gonna have to febreeze her if and when I start getting complaints.

6. Number 1 thing you can’t live without

My rollerblades. We are in a codependent relationship.

7. Favorite record of all time?

Good goddess that’s a tough one. I’m gonna have to go with Hymns for the Exiled by Anaïs Mitchell. I saw her perform it in this little room at my sister’s college when I was ten. There were about eight people in the audience. It still is the most incredible concert I’ve ever seen. Every lyric rumbled through my little heart. Every note vibrated in my little bones. These songs are so beautifully written and have remained so special to me as I grow as a human and an artist. In recent years I’ve actually had the privilege of working with her producer and spending some time with Anaïs. But every time I do though I make an ass of myself.

Plug for a collab. Anaïs you reading this?
