Paris based dark pop duo DALHIA are poised to announce a brand new release with the arrival of ‘VIVA 4 EVER’, released 22nd March through cult French label BANSHIES.
Lifted from the forthcoming EP due later this year, ‘VIVA 4 EVER’, retains dark pop sensibilities through treasured song-writing. DALHIA deal in themes of disenchantment, sexuality, relationships and hope, carved out in their own bittersweet, inimitable style.
They say: “Viva 4 Ever evokes disillusionment in the friendly family and romantic relationship. Love is a fragile energy that can untie at any moment. The song invites us to grasp the complexity of the combined feelings that crumble during the betrayal of a loved one. Hate and love are always in fusion and produce in us an eternal conflict. This state of disorder coexists with hope: ‘Viva 4 Ever’ literally means ‘To live forever’; that is to say to live despite the overwhelming disappointments. This title is also a tribute to a well-known Spice Girls song: ‘Viva Forever’, which speaks of deep freedom. Thus this song is tinged with childhood memories but also hope.”
What makes this song VIVA 4 EVER special in your opinion?
Viva 4 Ever has a very long intro and shows immediately the mood of the track. The chorus is like screaming from the heart, really powerful and catchy.
What inspired this track?
We wrote that song a night in our studio just with a guitar and a vocal. Rachel wrote the lyrics really quick and then we reworked the song with some synths, drums and bass. You can hear the original guitar full of effects at 1min05’.
What are some of the core messages here?
Viva 4 Ever is a song about friendship, love and family disappointments. It’s a willingness to stay strong and upright. It’s important to face events that occur. Viva 4 Ever means to live despite everything that happens. It’s also a nod to a spice girl song called Viva forever that I really appreciated.
What inspires your sound?
We are influenced by a lot of different styles. Basically we like hip hop, rnb for the rhythmics and the vocals melodies, we also like the energy of rock and electronic music. We are influenced by every kind of music who have something particular or something different to offer.
What’s your favorite tune of yours?
Simon : I love the vibe on Miami, lyrics and music fits perfectly. I like the weird part slowed with reverb on high vocals at the end of the track!
Rachel : Blue Ex-tasy is one of my favorite tunes. I like the deep lyrics. It’s a song I wrote a long time ago and I like that track because it reminds me of a lot of moments in my life. For the power of the pop melodies Viva is the best to me.
Where are some things you really want to accomplish as an artist?
We really hope to play in the Super Bowl one day! Fingers crossed 🙂
