What is the song all about? What’s the story behind it?
When I wrote HARD FAST I was imagining a girl out on the club scene and I’d been listening to Britney Spears ‘Work Bitch’ so maybe you’ll hear some of those references in there. The chorus ‘hard, fast, give it to me, give it to me’ is a double entendre. We will just leave it at that haha! I wanted people to feel sexy and empowered when they listened to this track and I’m confident I’ve delivered.
How do you usually keep your creative juice coming?
I’m not always in the studio. I spend stints in the studio and then the rest of my time is split between independently managing my project, designing my visuals and just living! Taking time off gives me something to chat about when I’m back on the mic. I have gotten into the habit of keeping notes in my phone for song themes, song titles and lyrics and I take inspiration from everywhere! I especially love listening to people speaking and taking inspiration from the way people communicate and their dialects.
What inspires your aesthetics? Any references or inspo?
I’m really into designers and I LOVE early runway Mugular, John Galiano and Alexander McQueen. I’m really into working with new designers. Some really interesting creatives are entering the industry right now and it’s exciting to be able to work with their creations in my projects. I’m really into the darker side of aesthetics and I like to incorporate those elements into my looks with latex, plastic, leather etc. I’m very interested in playing with gender and power roles in my work. I don’t feel confined to traditional beauty standards and want to continue to express that in my styling and my music.
What are some of your musical influences?
I’m such a Michael Jackson and Madonna fan! I really love Janet Jackson and her live performances were just everything. More recent artists that I am loving are Brooke Candy, Sega Bodega and Charlie XCX right now. I love such a range of music! Anything from Hardcore Punk to Hyper Pop, and everything that touches me leaves some kind of imprint on me and I guess that ends up working it’s way into my creative process.
What inspires your storytelling?
I just want to empower myself and have some FUN! My hope is that my music will uplift people and make them feel connected to something transcendent that we are collectively experiencing. Life can be so isolating at times and I remember music giving me that feeling of recognition for feelings I’d been going through that no one in my immediate circle seemed to be experiencing.
