Crafted entirely from his London flat, Self-Made Heartbreak marks the beginning of a new era for Sadb0y.

The project is brimming with euphoric sounds, warming synths and explosive drum patterns, all layered with relatable songwriting. The result creates Sadb0y’s unmistakable sound, for which Self-Made Heartbreak is just the beginning.

Since a young age, Sadb0y always had a passion for writing music and poetry. This combined with singing everywhere he went, cemented his ambitions to create and release music from the heart.

Why did you name this release Self-Made Heart Break?

I think when I’d finished writing the tape I looked back and realised I can be quite self destructive in love, I think it’s just a growing up thing. I realised I’m super intense as a person and sometimes I shoot myself in the foot when it comes to relationships.

How was the process of creating it? Why did you decide to make it in your bedroom?

I can’t lie, the process was so natural and freeing. I think that had a lot to do with me just being in my own space. I was literally experimenting with sound, and wanted a project that I guess wasn’t too try hard or polished.. and I mean, I’m not a producer first hand so I guess that’s how that worked out!

You mention how this release marks a new era for you. Why?

I think it’s the first time I’ve made music to put out purely for the love of it with no boundaries or expectations, because it was the debut for Sadb0y it gave me a fresh start.

What inspires your choice of sounds, instrumentation and sonic atmosphere?

I loooove cinematic synths and soundscapes. Layers and atmosphere. I love it when I sound hits and it feels like you just got punched in the stomach.

Is Stay the most representative track?

I’d say it opens the mixtape well, it sets the tone for sure. But to be honest, all 6 tracks are little parts of what I love and who I am.

Who are some of your icons and heroes today?

I grew up revising Freddie Mercury and appreciated his stage presence and pure love for music. I think sonically I take inspiration from a lot of dance/electronic music, such as ODESZA and Flume, even if it’s just an under tone or layer of air underneath a piano. Vocally I like to keep it strong, always obsessed over big singers. I miss a good key change!

What’s it like being a 20-year-old in today’s creative industry?

It’s changed a hell of a lot. I think it’s a very different scope of industry now. It has its pros and cons. I do wish that people too chance on talent a bit more though. I didn’t sign up to be an influencer, I just want to make banging music that touches people on a mass scale. Then I’m happy, I’m good for everything else.

What can we expect from your 2024?

Live shows! I’ve got some great summer shows coming up along with a headline show later in the year. I want to release more music too, I’ve got it all near enough finished, just finishing touches on things at the moment. I’m in the studio writing for other people a fair bit too which I also love!
