Sizzy Rocket became the sneering face of 21st-century rock & roll thanks to her viral 2016 electro-pop-punk seducer, “Bestie”, an unapologetically profane paean to turning your BFF into one with benefits. It’s easy to hear her corrupting influence on the songs she’s penned for artists like Blu DeTiger, Noah Cyrus & Bea Miller.

A seasoned touring artist, she has opened as direct support for GIRLI, Shamir, KITTEN, and Lauren Sanderson and performed on the Main Stage at San Antonio and Grand Rapids PRIDE Festivals. She challenges what it means to be a pop artist in 2022 with her DIY approach, poetic and unapologetic lyricism, and her genre-blending musicality that takes influence from punk, hip-hop, and beyond.

OUR MUNDANE OPINION: We need more artists like Sizzy Rocket to show us what it means to be alternative, and rebellious!

Q: What makes you and your music rebellious?

A: My fearlessness to be true in my expression.

Q: What does rebellion mean to you today?

A: It means staying true to yourself no matter what – especially in our world today, which rewards and even encourages sameness.

Q: How did you get the idea for this song?

A: I was in the studio with my producer, Benny Reiner, and we pretty much just freestyled the whole thing at the same time… it was like a portal opened into a world where we could just pop off and let this wild rockstar energy run free. I just knew it was a summer anthem. I was playing with melodies based off of one of my favorite David Bowie songs “Rebel Rebel,” which is one of my personal anthems and it all sort of came together in a whirlwind.

Q: You’re hinting at the fact that this is a new chapter for you. How so?

A:  There are a lot of reasons – it’s my first release as a completely independent artist. It’s the first single from my new album, which I just spent the past 2 years working on. I just got out of an 8 year long contract with Universal Music Group, so it’s my first release with complete ownership over every aspect of my music. It all just feels different this time, I feel more powerful – in control of my legacy and my Art, which is everything.

Q: What inspires you every day?

A: I just love and respect Art so much – everyday I wake up grateful for the opportunity to be an Artist and make something out of my life.
