The precocious 16 year pop artist and actress Neska Rose is most known for her recurring role on the Nickelodeon mockumentary sitcom Drama Club but has been pursuing music since a very young age, and already has a knack for catchy and relatable songwriting that exceeds artists many years her senior.

The song is an upbeat, guitar-driven pop song about “need to feel like you’re being heard, that you want to be picked”, with the video literally taking place at a theater audition as Neska’s twin sister Libi plays three different characters who are all trying out for a part.

This new song follows her debut single “Done” from 2020 and an EP in 2021 titled The Repel Of A Young Girl, both of which Neska wrote and produced herself. In addition to her music, Neska is making waves as a comedic actress, featured as the recurring character Gertie on the Nickelodeon high school mockumentary Drama Club and will soon be appearing in a climate change anthology series “Extrapolations” from Apple TV alongside a star studded series cast that includes Meryl Streep, Matthew Rhys, Marion Cotillard, Eiza Gonzalez, Tobey Maguire, and more.

The song and music video are both centered around, as Neska puts it, the “need to feel like you’re being heard, that you want to be picked”, with the video literally taking place at a theater audition as Libi plays three different characters who are all trying out for a part.

As each one of these distinct characters played by Libi dances across the stage with Neska, you get a real sense of not only the strong performing chops these young women have already developed, but also the natural chemistry they have with each other as siblings.

What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?

The fact that I get to put stuff out there. After producing and assembling stuff together, I feel like I’m proud enough of the creations that I’ve made, (which couldn’t have happened without my loved ones) that I just can’t wait to release it all.

What makes this song special in your opinion?

It has elements of many sentiments. Over time I learned that I’m not a fan of defining a song as happy or sad because it traps the song into a box. I feel like a listener can relate to this song in so many different ways; you can think it’s the time when you felt left out, or when you tried to impress a loved one. Same goes for the music video, I wanted to include all colors. There’s a playfulness with the three characters and solemnity in other parts. I wanted to leave space for the listener to encounter their own artistic mind.

What inspired this track?

I remember being overloaded with feelings of feeling like I don’t belong, excitement because I was working on my first big acting job, being nervous because I wanted to impress people. It was a pungent cocktail of emotions that I wanted to write down, so here it is a year later.

What are some of the core messages here?

Accepting the fact that you want attention; not judging yourself for your vulnerability. Sometimes I catch myself trying to be overly independent, but life doesn’t work that way; It’s all about teamwork and needing one another. You make magic from the ups and downs, I wrote this song when I was down. It’s important to showcase yourself and tell your truth to others because so many extraordinary things will come up.

How do you think tik tok and social media are contributing to changing an artist’s career?

It’s the entire world nowadays, you have to face it. Before the internet, you could be discovered by a talent scout at a nightclub, and now all the power holds in a person’s cell phone. What’s great about it is that you could basically do anything (don’t go overboard though) for people to see. You don’t have a small chance to sing a 2-minute song in an open mic venue, you have all the time in the world. It’s you presenting yourself, potentially to an insurmountable amount of people, but it only takes one to take action.

What excites you about your life?

I recently got a sense of clarity that everything is moving forward in my life. Things are happening, and it’s because I was patient, because of persistence, and I have my amazing mom to support me. It’s exciting to feel like I have so many tools in order for me to feel whole.

What are some of your core values as a human being?

Knowing your intention and going after it. Realizing that you’re a contribution to the world, and sharing your heart with others.

What are your projects for this year?

I have a new project that recently got announced, which I’m so grateful to be a part of. The show is called “Extrapolations”; an upcoming limited series on Apple TV. I got to work with people I’ve been looking up to since I was in elementary school. This show is so mind-blowing, I can’t write it all in a paragraph.

Also, it goes without saying: more music.
