Known for her single, Kiss N Tell (2022), produced by 2022 Grammy-Award Winner (Best Album, Jon Batiste) Autumn Rowe, and her other popular songs, Close to Me (2022), I’m Good (2021), Not That into You (2020), Beside Me (2019), and Can’t Stop Thinking About You (2018), the singer’s sound is inspired by the late 90’s/early 2000’s and will give nostalgic vibes to those who remember that era of music well.
Sophia feels passionate about both her Latina and American heritage and is striving to incorporate both languages into her music. She also feels strongly about including her personal experiences in her music to connect with her audience. Her hit single, Beside Me, was written to encourage her fans to feel empowered and always express their individuality! Sophia is an avid supporter of the Thirst for Life project- an organization that builds wells in Africa for people who do not have access to clean water. In addition to the Thirst For Life project, Sophia loves to perform and has gone on to sing the national anthem for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Memphis Redbirds!
When did you decide you wanted to make music in both English and Spanish?
I was in a studio session, and I was talking with my mentor Autumn Rowe about how I wanted to create a song that showed both sides of me. I feel like it’s important as an artist to create your own lane and not stick to one genre, so we created Cuidado and its pop with song reggaeton elements to it.
Do you feel your heritage makes you a stronger artist?
For sure, artists such as Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Rosalia, and Karol G. inspired me and they also incorporate Spanish and English as well in songs. Artists like Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Dua lipa inspired me as well and I tried to bring all that inspo into this track.
Why did you choose CUIDADO as a title?
It was just a super fun title! It means “be careful” in Spanish and it’s said a lot in the chorus.
What’s the main message on this record?
The song is super fun and flirty and its about a relationship. I’m telling the guy to be careful….basically if he’s playing games or he’ll lose me. It’s about situation-ships and wanting one to be more official.
What’s your favorite song you’ve ever written and why?
Writing Cuidado was one of my favorite moments. Kizzo, Autumn and I couldn’t stop dancing and screaming out of excitement. We really felt the potential it had and I feel it is truly a hit.
You are a supporter of Thirst for Life. What drew you to such a cause and organization?
What drew me to it was the mission of it all and what they stood for and the changes they were making. I am truly honored to have been a part of that and I have shared stories on Instagram to raise money to build wells in Africa.
