Cheeky, upbeat, and tinged with nostalgia, Stay Kinky carves out its own space in the music world as the latest EP from Findlay. With her signature mix of grit and charm, Findlay has built a name for herself, earning critical acclaim and racking up over 20 million streams across platforms.

This new project, true to Findlay’s eclectic style, pays tribute to the golden era of 60s and 70s pop-rock. Channeling the experimental spirit of that time through bold studio techniques, unconventional instruments, and textured sound effects like intentional noise, close-miking, and distortion.

“My most unserious body of work—these are the songs I’ve written over this summer that I wanted to get out straight away. I’ve really enjoyed the collaborative process of making this EP; it’s been very different from my last album I made in lockdown, which was a pretty isolated experience with some heavy subject matter. Recently I’ve been back to being in a playful, happy headspace and having a lot of fun making music. These tracks were mostly written between the English countryside and Los Angeles and took a lot of inspiration from those late 60s/early 70s British and American pop records that are deep in my musical DNA,” Findlay shares.

Those late 60s and early 70s influences are evident from the very first track, Summer’s Almost Over, where the guitar sets the tone for a laid-back, vintage-inspired opening. From there, Juicy Fruit, featuring Miles Kane, and Fishbowl raise the stakes, adding synths and layered production tricks that bring more texture and movement to the EP. The result is a sharp, distinctive record that hooks listeners early on and keeps them engaged through every track.

Eggshells and It’s A Pleasure keep the momentum going, leading up to Stay Kinky, a sultry, hypnotic highlight. True to Findlay’s signature style, it effortlessly blends British pop-rock roots with modern indie sensibilities. Closing the EP is I Always Get What I Want, a high-energy track designed to get your pulse racing. With its playful and upbeat vibe, it marks a sharp contrast to some of Findlay’s darker past hits.

Throughout her career, Findlay has navigated different styles without ever losing her essence. From her early days in Manchester’s indie scene to collaborations with big-name artists, she has constantly evolved.

With Stay Kinky, Findlay’s stepping into a new phase—one that’s carefree, bold, and full of life, reminding us that music doesn’t always have to play by the rules. With its vintage sound, playful production, and rebellious streak, Stay Kinky is the perfect soundtrack for a summer that refuses to end. It’s a reminder that no matter how much things change, there will always be room for fun, spontaneity, and, of course, a damn good song.
