Springer is Jakob Emil Pedersen – the handsome young man lookin’ at you. With roots in the Copenhagen underground punk scene, he has always been a controversial, visionary artist and a songwriter speaking some truth!
His new single is ‘Club’ – an anti-popular song about detaching yourself from the anxiety of adaptation. Why would you drink natural wines if you dig bubbly energy drinks? Why go to a party to say you were there if you just wanna stay in and be alone? Why say yes, if you wanna say no?
‘Club’ is everything from early 00’s pop-punk to modern hip hop with a little help from rapper, Young Smash OTP. Initially inspired by eurodance 90’s bangers, ‘Club’ is destined to provoke and make the “cool” crowd feel noxious…
What’s your story as an artist?
– I started out playing trumpet at the age of 8. Then as I grew Into my early teenage years, my interest in rock music grew, and I started playing the guitar and I started singing. I Moved away from the small-town I’m from, at the age of 16. Moved to the capital of Denmark Copenhagen. There I started playing guitar and trumpet in a rock band called marching church, and toured for some years with them, we actually played at third man records in Nashville. I was also the lead singer of a prog-rock band. But while both bands were heading into the endgame, I felt like starting a career in pop music. Pop music has always been my favourite genre. I’ve always been drawn to good melodies, even in my bourgeois teenage insecurity period of life I couldn’t lie to escape pop. Even though I tried HARD. When I listened to television personalities, or lou reed I only really wanted to listen to the bangers. So when I was 20 If decided to stop denying who I was, and began making pop music. So here I am now, just trying to write and do the shit I find interesting
What inspired ‘Club’?
– Just life. Walking down the streets of Copenhagen, and looking at people. I hate when everyone agrees on a new restaurant that’s the best, or a nightclub that’s the new thing everyone has to be at. I always feel like going contrary. Because when something is popular it means only the cool kids can go, and some people will be left out and I hate exclusiveness and groupings. I hate the cool Kids and I hate how we all agree on something, and that we don’t question how a drink costs 80 bucks or we pay 200 dollars for a carrot. I don’t wanna be a part of a club, but my own door is always open if someone needs it.
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
– we tried hard to sample the melody from “ gigi d’agostino l’amour toujours”. It’s super iconic and would have been funny to use. But we couldn’t get a hold of any of the writers, and Me and young smash are way too broke to afford a lawsuit, so we landed on the theme that’s in the song now, and we’re happy about it
Do you get inspired by other art forms?
– Not really I think. I’m not a very visual person, when I close my eyes it’s just black and thoughts. That’s maybe also one of the reasons I make music, because that’s a thing I can actually make up in my head. But I watch a lot of movies and read books. And it’s probably there in the music somewhere subconsciously. But mostly I get inspired by the daily life
What’s a record that shaped your creativity?
– prince (Purple rain) – Ariana Grande (Sweetener)
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
– I’m a huge Juice Wrld fan, I love his lyrics and his voice. But I think I look more up the songs then the artist, if it makes sense?
What is your view on genres and music styles since you mix a lot of them in your music?
– I don’t really give a shit about genres. I never think about them. I just do the music I think is fun and inspires me. Right now I’m going into a eurodance, basshunter period of my life. And maybe in two years it will sound more like heavy metal. I think it’s important not to think too much about style and genres and “what kind of a person am I”. I just try to keep my excitement for music alive by exploring all that it has to offer. I think most about the melodies. If they are catchy and make you feel something. Then the production and genres is just perfume and which fragrance you feel like wearing
How would you describe your act in one word?
– FULL
