What’s the story behind this track?

I wrote this when I was still having a hard time after retiring from gymnastics. I had lost a bit of my identity and ability to believe in myself moving into a new industry and space. I felt like I was starting at the very beginning all over again and also became very negative. As athletes, we are told that “you make everything happen,” but as I got further away from the sport, I was pessimistic and realized you can’t make everything happen. So many things were out of my control, but I had to get out of my slump and the negative space I was in. I wanted to write something that would be an inspiring anthem. I love the line “made diamonds out of nothing” because even if I’m starting at the bottom, I can still make something beautiful out of nothing. The lyrics are inspiring and meant to prove to people that I will do what I say I want to with my life, whether people doubt me or not. No one can take away from my trying; it was a song for positive manifestation.

Any life experiences that inspired you to write it?

When I told my former gymnastics circle that I wanted to really pursue music, some were really skeptical because I think they thought it was more of a hobby for me. As I got older, it seemed like such a younger person’s game to go for this industry, and I was getting negative feedback. I wanted to prove people wrong: no matter your background, you should never put someone down for trying. And this is something I truly want to pursue. So the line, “place your bets put money on me,” really means you can count on me to make my dreams a reality.

What’s the main message behind it?

The main message behind this song is that you can manifest and create the life that you want, no matter what anyone says.

How does this track fit within the EP?

So, originally, I wasn’t going to release this track because it didn’t fully go with the vibe of my EP. But while I was on tour, I was surrounded by young gymnasts, and I remembered being in their shoes and position. The tour was upbeat and super inspiring to the younger generation, and I thought it would be perfect to incorporate this song with Simone Biles’ Gold Over America Tour!

Who are your favorite artists of all time, and why?

Oh wow, this is a tough question, but I absolutely love Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, and, honestly, the Beatles. I love these artists for so many different reasons, but I love artists that can perform but also story tell with their lyrics.

What can you tell us about this Gold Over America Tour?

The GOAT tour was so much fun. I had such an amazing time performing for crowds every single night and just being back and surrounded by gymnasts. Being in that environment again was comforting because gymnasts have a certain energy that’s infectious. I loved being able to see all the smiles on everyone’s faces while they were watching was so special. I made lifelong friends and memories on tour that I will cherish forever.

What are the main themes of your storytelling, and what other topics would you like to explore?

The theme of my storytelling is self-empowerment. I’ve struggled a lot emotionally through my gymnastics career, and my themes are meant to find light in the darkest of times. They’re meant for others to feel inspired and courageous. I would love to explore more heartfelt themes of romance in the future!

What inspired the production and sonic aspect of this track?

I wanted something fun and upbeat like “Bang Bang.” I want the listener to want to dance, sing their troubles away, and feel empowered when singing this song.

What are your plans for 2025?

2025 is going to be so fun! I plan on releasing my EP and cleaning up my sound and vibe as an artist. If you want to keep up, check out my socials because I share a lot there.
