How did Covid affect you and how did you bounce back?
In March of 2020, we were set to release my first American EP and the world stopped with Covid-19. Coming out of the first major wave of the pandemic, I wanted to release a single that really addressed the times we are in and to inspire everyone to use our power to make things better….. that was the genesis for “We Are The Power”
Tell us about this track
The times we are living drove the timing and ultimately, the finished state of “We Are The Power” and video. I know we can all be inspired and I know that working together we are all so powerful. I felt tired of listening to all of the bad news on TV. I also felt that in such a fragile historical moment, that had been silenced to a degree. In my opinion, music was not being used for the purpose of healing and inspiration, and this need drove our thoughts in writing “We Are The Power”.
What is the achievement or moment in your career you are the most proud of and why?
The 1998 Children’s song, “Batti 5”, featured on TV show Zecchino d’Oro that was picked up by UNICEF and featured at the Pope John Paul II’s Jubilee in 2000.
I was also honored to be part of the creation of “Con Te”, sung by Sergio Sylvestre at the 2017 San Remo Music Festival.
What is your creative process like?
I begin with hands on the piano and create a melody. Once I have the idea of the melody, I hum or use random sounds to understand how I want the lyrics to fit into the composition. During the writing sessions, we come up with the perfect words, layer them into the song, and then I work with the producer to complete the project. This is how we made “We Are The Power” and this is my most commonly used process. From time to time, my friend and lyricist, John Smallwood, will send me an idea and I compose the music around what he sends. I find both processes fun and always productive.
