Cowboy Mugshot is one of those rising talents from the Nashville area you need to keep on your radar. His tracks are going viral on Tik Tok and his Spotify listeners count sees a steady upwards arrow however he confessed to Mundane how is still new to singing and being a frontman.

“I didn’t start singing until only a year ago, believe it or not. I was a touring drummer since high school and have been on countless stages in my life but I only recently discovered my singing abilities.”

“I’ve always had a feeling I could make a decent singer. My dad is an amazing singer so I thought I must have it hidden in me somewhere. Meanwhile, I was writing a ton for my old band but all my efforts were kinda overlooked and was treated as ‘just the drummer’ by them so I had a big ‘fuck you! I’m gonna do it myself!’ moment and decided to turn all those demos into my own project”

Since then, Cowboy Mugshot started threading a whole new path.

“It’s been a rebirth, truly. I feel like my potential has finally been unleashed and I have the opportunity to build my own act not only musically but aesthetically.” He remarks

“I’m a very visual person so when I write I always take my mind to a higher plane. I start wondering about how the music video for that song is going to come out, what kind of clothes I’m going to wear, what the stage is going to look like when I’m playing it live etc.”

“My dad would always say ‘you want your audience to dress like you and you wanna dress like your audience’ which is probably one of the most powerful one liners I’ve ever heard!”

When it comes to sonic influences, he pulls from quite all over the place.

“When I started making demos on my phone I was heavily into Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator but I grew up listening to Slipknot and Deftones so my first set of demos sounded a bit bizarre to people!”

“I kept hearing stuff like ‘hey this doesn’t make any sense’ and ‘yo this is five different genres’ etc. which ultimately made me realize I was onto something because I was coming up with my own sound!”

“That’s what I want, after all. I want to be able to mix a thousand genres together and still be able to keep them all under the Cowboy Mugshot umbrella. And if it doesn’t make sense at first, it’s ok because it means that you are listening to it and you will catch the vibe sooner or later. Guaranteed!”

Cowboy Mugshot is not just a musical act, it’s a whole artistic entity. And you are gonna wanna keep an eye out for it before it blows up in your face!
