Tell us about the genesis of your act. How did you get to where you are now?
That’s about as wild a question as ‘who are you’ – I sang before I could talk. ask my mother. Growing up in Nashville Tennessee was like a master class in ‘the song’ but I didn’t know that it was something I wanted to do – or something I could ever do. I didn’t have family in the business. I grew up so outside of the norm that I just turned to singing because it felt good and allowed me to escape the realities of growing up effeminate/different/other in the south.
I still have so much I want to explore and so much I have yet to uncover. and music allows me to dive deep on the questions in my heart and see what’s inside.
What are some sources of inspiration for your lyrics and storytelling?

Stevie Wonder, Songs in the Key of Life

MERIDIAN : vol 2 is the resolution of MERIDIAN : vol 1. This project got me through this pandemic and I’m excited for people to hear it.
What inspires your sound?
Not thinking about ‘my sound’ and just thinking about what I want to say.
What was it like working with someone like Sara Bareilles?
Sara is a superstar and the most humble hard worker i’ve ever met. that’s the kind of artist who inspires me – someone a lot of people know their name but she is in there putting in the work because she respects the work.
What was the inspiration behind the revisitation of Wonder?
WONDER wouldn’t let me go so i kept asking it what it wanted. it kept morphing because of it.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Alive
What was the most daunting moment in your career so far?
This month i packed up everything i owned and moved back to nashville… all while shooting a music video for DON’T THINK ABOUT IT (the first single from MERIDIAN : vol 2) and filming and releasing the performance of WONDER with Sara Bareilles for Jimmy Kimmel Live. It was the best experience and all of the emotions wrapped into one very short few week period.
What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Get out of your own way and enjoy it.
