Tell us about the story of your art.
I’ve always known I wanted to be a professional singer, but I didn’t have confidence in my own songwriting until recently. I’ve been in the music industry for a decade and had always had songs written for me, but now that I have found a collaborator that I have a creative chemistry with (my producer, Seul) I’ve been able to make my songs 100% personal and now I feel empowered and inspired to continue to write!
What is the message behind your art?
For this EP I am focusing a lot on subjects about embracing the authentic self. This year has been a season of self discovery and healing for me and the writing reflects all aspects of that.
What are some sources of inspiration for your lyrics and storytelling?
Always personal experience. When I write about a subject when I’m in the thick of it, I’m able to get to the heart of the matter. If I wait too long, I’m usually past the feeling and I get stumped
Who is an artist that you look up to more than others today?
I am loving Kasey Musgraves! Her songwriting is flawless. It has so many layers but is still so easy to listen to.
Tell us about your latest release and how it came about
When I wrote perfect, I was stuck in a state of emotional paralysis. I couldn’t figure out how to let go of the pressure to please everyone and it had stifled my creativity. The writing process was therapeutic and lead me to the conclusion that I needed to be my own barometer of success. It’s been very freeing to realize that.
You seem to be fusing several musical genres. What inspires your sound?
I love being an independent artist because I have the freedom to experiment. Right now we are doing just that, and it’s really exciting to see what people are responding to. I am inspired by so many musical genres so fusing them is really fun for me
What excites you the most about what you do?
Performing is such a beautiful exchange of energy. There’s nothing like being able to convey the message of a song through voice and have the audience be completely tuned into the emotion of the song. I’ve experienced this in audiences and I love to be on the other side too. Unforgettable moments are made at live musical performances
Your style is very original and elaborate. How do you take care of your aesthetics?
Thank you! I have an incredible stylist, Phil Gomez. He always pushes me to wear pieces that are a bit out of the box and I love it! I am also thrifting 24/7. Finding diamond in the rough pieces is my hobby and they always make for the most interesting outfits later.
