While embodying femininity and empowerment, the duo fuses modern elements of melodic and Latin house music with the rich origins of Flamenco. They are creating a new sub-genre within electronic music that’s creating a movement in Spain and quickly making its way to the rest of the world.
What does Flamenco represent for your artistic and human development?
Flamenco is our roots, the way of understanding music. It was the first music we heard and with which, whether we like it or not, we will always be linked.
When did you discover electronic music and what drew you to it so much to make you want to become DJs?
I don’t know if we really know the moment in which we discovered electronic music. I think that sometimes it is more the scene you find yourself in that takes you there. We probably started thinking about what it made us feel, and then we began to understand it until it became our life.
What are the highlights of this record? Most representative tracks, anecdotes about what inspired them?
Sorority. Love. Passion.
“Compañera” – It is an ode to the love between and of women.
How did you two know you were destined to be a duo? What are the creative dynamics among you and how do you create music together?
It’s incredible to think that for a long time we were colleagues working separately in the same music scene as DJs and now we are like sisters. Deep admiration, respect and luck do wonderful things in art.
Regarding creation, we have very similar ways of thinking and seeing art. Normally, one of us has an idea, and we always shape it together. It’s wonderful to connect with someone like that.
What inspires your aesthetics and looks?
The Spanish folklore. Our roots.
Why did you call your show SACRO and what were some of the best cities, venues, audiences you encountered around the world?
The Flamenco is a sacred art of our ancestors. Based on tradition of many years and has a very powerful charge of mystery and magic. SACRO means sacred.
Probably Tulum or Ibiza. We love those places.
How did you pick the features on this record, and what was it like to work with amazing artists such as Reyes Carrasco or Chambao?
They fit perfectly with the feminine energy and power we were looking for in the songs themselves.
What are some of your favorite Flamenco artists or tracks? Someone or something that deeply influenced you as people and artists.
Camarón de la Isla, Lole y Manuel, Enrique Morente…can’t choose one 🙂 We feel deeply inspired by the cultures of the world and especially by their music traditions.
Who are some of the artists on electronic music you would die to collab with?
What a question! But probably Black Coffee, Bedouin, Solomun…many producers that we admire so much.
What can we expect from this new movement you created and from Mestiza in the future?
A lot of creativity, new sounds, and new music accompanied by a show. This is just the beginning of a new era 🪭
