“A story of getting to know someone that you may like, perhaps not even romantically, but have been close to. And the deeper that you get to know this someone, the more you begin to re-evaluate if the relationship or friendship is worthwhile.” — Kordelya

The song speaks on the various manipulative aspects that can be revealed in a toxic relationship. With an undertone of identifying narcissistic tendencies, the song is a reflection on how these polarizing layers demystify what you once knew to be true.

The lyric’s use of various theatrical motifs such as “scene” and “play” and that of board games like “chess” further vehicle this concept of being allured by someone’s mind games as the song eloquently explores themes of power plays and relational or interpersonal politics.

Tell us about your story as an artist

I started playing piano because my grandfather used to have one. Every time we went to visit him, I would always mess around with it and play songs I liked by ear. But then one day, I started playing my own melody and chords. It just became way more fun to make up my own songs. Right around that time my parents were getting divorced and looking back I probably could have used some therapy but in a way I’m grateful that I didn’t because writing songs became my therapist. My earliest songs have a lot of questions and confusion in it which is kind of interesting to look back to what I was thinking at the time.

What do you think is the most important aspect of your life right now?

Playing shows and producing and writing music for my project and other artists’ is when I’m at my happiest. But a close second is my family and friends.

What makes this song special in your opinion?

Unique sound designs in the production, saying something in the lyrics that hasn’t been said quite like that before in a cool melody, and the soul the artist pours onto it.

What inspired this track?

I recently had to let a person go when I realized that the “nice person” I thought they were was just a front. I finally saw this person‘s true colors, and it really shook me to realize that this person I cared for didn’t really exist.

What are some of the core messages here?

The track speaks about the power you have in letting go of a person that brings toxicity into your life. If you need to protect yourself from the negativity that a person brings into your life – regardless if they are family or have been in your life for a long time – there is nothing wrong and no shame in standing up for yourself and protecting your physical and mental health.

How do you think tik tok and social media are contributing to change an artist’s career?

Getting way more exposure and access to reach people from all over the world, more direct communication with people that listen to you to understand your audience, and way more autonomy to release the music you are most passionate about.

What excites you about your life?

Playing one of my new songs in the show for the first time and hearing people sing it with me is honestly one of the feelings that feeds and fuels me the most.

What are some of your core values as a human being?

Treating people with respect no matter where they are from or who they love. Practicing perseverance when fighting for the life you want to have, and forgiveness if you make mistakes along the way.

What are your projects for next year?

New album, music videos, collabs, and international tour dates 🫶
