Hot off the heels of being featured on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show with a Tik Tok duet with Joe Jonas, Minnesota based artist Tristan Price has just released his newest single ‘Closer’.
This track is a kick back banger with a mid-tempo pop-R&B vibe that has made waves on Tik Tok leading up to its release. The lyrics in ‘Closer’ tell a romantic story about connection and breaking down emotional barriers.
What inspired this last release?
‘Closer’ was inspired by the pandemic times. We all have been disconnected and distant from one another for so long, and since this track was created about 6 months ago, I was focused on rebuilding connections and breaking down emotional barriers with those close to me.
What is something you can’t live without?
I can’t live without art. Whether it is recording, performing, singing, or writing, I can not go a day without being creative. It is not something that I do, but something that I am.
Any funny anecdotes from the time you were recording or writing this?
My team has teased me for using the word ‘baby’ excessively in previous tracks. So, we had a good laugh when I decided to use “Baby, baby, babe” as the opening of the chorus that plays repeatedly throughout the song.
What’s your favorite thing to do besides music?
Other than music, I also have a deep love for film and acting. I went to an art-centered high school growing up where I studied acting during my vocal training and even starred in many musical theater projects.
What’s a record or artist that shaped your creativity?
Usher has been my biggest influence as an up and coming artist. I always loved his dedication to strong vocal technique and the fact that he shaped R&B for my entire generation. He is an incredible songwriter and I have taken notes for my own music in the way I look to tell meaningful stories with each song that I write.
Who is an artist or band you look up to today?
I am currently a big fan of SZA. She is incredibly unique and breaks down the structure of how songs are supposed to flow and sound. She is great at finding the perfect melodies.
What excites you the most about what you do?
I really just love sharing a special part of me with those around the world. The way music and lyrics can spark inspiration and bring people together is incredible. Being in the studio with other artists and/or producers collaborating and sharing our talents is magical and such a unique experience that I could never live without.
