Monday, November 14th SoundCloud held an exclusive screening and premiere party for the latest episode of its award-winning original music discovery docuseries, “SCENES.” The episode, “SCENES: SoCal Soul,” spotlights the underground R&B music scene exploding in Southern California, led by a new generation of innovative artists who are building community on SoundCloud and pushing the scene on the platform globally. The event was attended by artists featured in the documentary – including Destin Conrad, Fana Hues, India Shawn, Kenyon Dixon, and Mack Keane, plus producers D’Mile and Jack Dine – among other influencers, music industry leaders and changemakers.
The event took place at The Gathering Spot in Los Angeles, a private club rooted in community and culture and included an exclusive screening of “SCENES: SoCal Soul,” DJ sets by Earry Hall and DJ R-Tistic, and a special performance by LA singer-songwriter, Fana Hues. Guests spent the evening celebrating the local artists who are pushing the R&B genre with a blend of hip-hop, jazz, and soul influenced by the culture of LA neighborhoods.

From Grammy-Award winning producer D’Mile, who produced hits like Silk Sonic’s “Leave The Door Open” and H.E.R.’s “I Can’t Breathe”, to India Shawn an artist in her own right who has also co-written songs for Monica and Keri Hilson – the episode sees the group of artists defining what R&B means to them, their influences, and how R&B is evolving.
These artists are pushing the genre with a blend of hip-hop, jazz, and soul influenced by the culture of neighborhoods like Inglewood, Compton, Leimert Park, Long Beach, and beyond.
